Come spend a summer in Los Angeles from July 8-August 4. Come to a school where students are given both the freedom and tools to make their artistic visions come true. A place where students and faculty create and perform side by side. A place where we ask not why, but how. (For your art classes you can choose between Dance and Music)

Ensembles:

At the core of the ACE music experience are ensembles–where students make music every day alongside music faculty who are some of the most dynamic and innovative music-makers from L.A., New York, and beyond. Each summer we create an exciting and diverse lineup of ensembles based on student interviews/auditions and faculty ideas: they range from rock, jazz, and classical ensembles, to music from non-western traditions and experimental styles. We want to work with you to figure out what YOU want out of your summer in the United States.

These students above wanted to work on playing over funk and jazz. All of them have different kinds of training from Classical to Rock and Jazz.

Instrument Forums:

These small group classes bring together students who play like instruments. Students work with a master teaching artist on instrumental technique, sight-reading, ensemble playing, instrument maintenance, and other topics specific to their instrument or instrument group.

This audio track features a student who wanted to work on Modern Chamber music, so we partnered her up with composer/percussionist David Johnson to work on the world premier of his piece Dark Wing.

Technique:

Students begin each day with technique class alternating modern and ballet; beginning and intermediate/advanced levels are offered. These classes offer dancers an opportunity to focus on strengthening technique and learning new skills in an inspiring and nurturing atmosphere. Ballet classes often incorporate yoga and pilates mat sessions. Most of our technique classes have live musical accompaniment and can lead to short performance pieces.

Performance Projects:

Where students dance every day alongside, and receive very personal attention from, some of today’s most innovative and inspiring dance choreographers.
Each summer we create an exciting and diverse lineup of performance projects based on student interviews/auditions and faculty ideas. The projects range from edgy contemporary modern pieces, funky jazz pieces, traditional and down beat tap projects, original choreography created by students in our choreolab, contemporary ballet works, hip hop ensembles and more.

Our ACE alumni Lindsey Lollie choreographed this piece called “Occupy”.

Preparing for College in the United States

If you are interested in coming to the United States to study art, ACE is the best place to start. Here you will be introduced to art education at a college level and get to see what it would be like to create and work with American students. ACE works with our upper level students to help them put together their audition pieces and help them create their artist portfolio.

Language Immersion
Students will spend every morning from 8:00am-10:00am working with esteemed professor Thomas Wong in one of our state of the art foreign language classrooms. Here students will be immersed in English with a friendly teacher who speaks English and Mandarin fluently. Students will take trips to different parts of Los Angeles where they will be immersed in the language and culture.

Living in Los Angeles
Students will get to experience Los Angeles as an artist when they go to Hollywood and downtown LA with our teachers to see live weekly professional performances.

We hope to see you this summer!
