ExploratoriumAre you a 4th-6th grader who wants to spend three weeks exploring music, musical theater and visual arts? Do you want to go beyond school band or orchestra? Are you inspired by "Glee" or "Wicked"? Do you have an inner Picasso or Banksy that needs to come out? Come to the Exploratorium this summer and make music, theater and art with other kids and talented teaching artists.
Students will spend each morning playing in ensembles that range from jazz to pop and rock to musical theatre pit. Students in this major MUST have a minimum of one year’s experience studying their instrument(s).
Students will spend each morning acting, scriptwriting and singing, working towards an original musical production that is custom fit for the interests of the students in this major.
Students will spend each morning storyboarding, scriptwriting, shooting, directing and editing silent films on iPads.
The Big Production:
All students will come together for an hour each day before lunch to work on a spectacular musical theatre production. Students will have a choice to work on set design and construction, singing and acting or pit orchestra.
In the afternoon students choose an elective class from any of these three majors. Elective classes change each summer based on student interest. Some past electives have included: hand drumming, songwriting, GarageBand, hip hop dance, spoken word poetry, breakdance, digital photography, iMovie, and silk screening.
